Alzheimer's Disease Statistics Are Staggering

The statistics behind Alzheimerˇ¦s disease are staggering. In the United States there are more than 5 million people suffering from this disease and more are being diagnosed every dayˇXin fact, according to the Alzheimerˇ¦s Association every 72 second, there is another person developing this disease.

Is there anything that can do done to slow or even stop the rising number of Alzheimerˇ¦s cases? At the present time, there is no cure and no immunization that can stop the disease. Once you have been diagnosed, it is just a matter of time before the symptoms increase and your standard of living declines.

What can be done to curb this problem? Today, medical researchers are desperately trying to come up with a solution to this problem. Literally hundreds if not thousands of them are working around the clock to come up with a way to either eliminate this disease or to at least slow down its progress.

Today, experts are attempting to assess the overall damages from Alzheimerˇ¦s disease by keeping statistics about it that can be used in the future. These statistics will shed light on how fast the disease is progressing and, hopefully someday, how there are fewer cases being diagnosed.

The statistics being keep include

„h How many Americans have this disease? „h What does the future hold when it comes to more people being diagnosed? „h How many deaths are directly attributed to it? „h What are the costs involved? (This includes private citizens taking care of family members; governments, at all levels; Medicare and Medicaid costs? „h How many of extended long term care facilities are dealing with Alzheimerˇ¦s patients and what is their capacity? „h What are the costs in the number of unpaid hours that are provided by family members or other charitable organizations?

When the Alzheimerˇ¦s disease statistics are finally computed, they will be staggering and they will continue to rise throughout the next few years. Since there is no cure and no way to immunize people against this disease, it will remain an aggressive disease that can strike almost anyone at anytime.

The statistics on Alzheimerˇ¦s disease will continue to be collected and analyzed by medical researchers and others who are very interested in what is occurring. While the numbers may not truly reflect all of the costs, this is, at least, a start for projecting what the future holds for everyone.

Believe it or not, we all share the burden of the medical costs for people with Alzheimerˇ¦s disease. Eventually the statistics will show that people are living longer with the disease (but not a quality of life that most want) and every one of these people must be cared for and their care must be paid for by someone.
